Thank you for visiting my website. I paint to meditate. To quiet the noise and engage completely in what’s around me. I hope you will find a moment of stillness here.
I am an artist and academic based in West London. I work on Johnsons Island in Brentford where the River Thames meets the Grand Union Canal. Johnsons Island Artists is a collective of around 20 painters, crafts people, milliners and musicians. It’s a very special place. A peaceful refuge in the city where the Grand Union Canal and the River Brent meet the Thames. We hold open studios three times a year but you can visit by appointment anytime. Feel free to get in touch if you’d like to arrange a studio visit.
I paint semi-abstract landscapes and flowers, mainly in oils and gold leaf. I've never been taught to paint so I have to trust my intuition. When I start a new painting I never really know what it’s going to be to but I know how I want it to feel. Each one is a new adventure. An antidote to modern life and a retreat into the mind and inner vision.
I tend to paint from nature and I paint for calm. For me painting is a meditation. More about process than outcome. I take inspiration from Japanese ink painting, Japanese abstract expressionists and Scandinavian mid 19th century painters.
